Welcome to Hostal Grau, one of the best eco-boutique hotels in Barcelona. Not only does Hostal Grau stand out for its ‘go green’ philosophy, but also for its exceptional location right in the middle of this magnificent Mediterranean city, only a few meters from La Rambla and Plaça de Catalunya – the tourist and shopping heart of Barcelona. Green spirit and location combined make this one of the best hotels to stay at while visiting Barcelona.
As soon as we arrived at Hostal Grau, its cozy interior decoration and charming personality made us feel right at home, especially thanks to the warm hospitality provided by Hostel Grau’s owner/manager, Monica, and her supportive team.
Stay Eco-Chic at Hostal Grau, Barcelona
Hostal Grau has gone through some major renovations since 2013, an opportunity to turn the historic building inside out and to rebuild its interior using state-of-the-art natural, ecological and sustainable elements. The guest is king, we like to hear, and at Hostal Grau you will sleep like a Royal on those handmade beds, complete with cocomat and naturalmat.
Bedrooms have double glazed windows (not very common in Barcelona), which blocks out just enough street noise to remind you where you are before your head hits the pillar for a good night’s sleep in the heart of Barcelona.
We also liked hearing that extra care was being taken during the renovations to make sure materials used were PVC (polyvinyl chloride) free and the painting natural, non-toxic. Rockwool makes for some great soundproofing between the rooms. If only more hotels would go the extra mile!
Next morning – you will have just finished your Km 0 local breakfast at ground floor Centric Bar and on your way to some serious shopping or sightseeing – housekeeping will hush around with their organic cleaning products.
Hostal Grau also encourages the use of bicycles while visiting Barcelona and this really couldn’t be easier with bicycle rental experts Barcelona Rent a Bike literally next door. And once you visit, chances are the hotel will already have achieved its LEED certification – first in Barcelona, and its Biosphere Responsible Tourism Certification.
There are some other surprises, too, such as the vertical garden and the eco-chic design of the bathrooms. Well done, Hostal Grau. We warmly recommend this home away from home as the perfect base for enjoying the wonderful city of Barcelona.
