City travelers, here’s our latest interview with world’s leading travel bloggers. Throughout the year, selected travel experts will share their favorite city destination and travel experiences, offering plenty of inspiration for your next city trip!
Meet Stephanie Yoder, travel blogger at Why wait to see the world. Since 2009, Stephanie has been blogging about her adventures on her website, now a sought-after source for Gen Y travelers.
Stephanie is originally from Washington DC, but for the first three years of her blog she was nomadic, traveling China, South East Asia, Australia, South America and Mexico, a bit of the US and Europe as well. Those times are over now, with Seattle in the state of Washington her homebase.
Stephanie, your best city trip so far?
It’s hard to pick just one, but London is my absolute favorite city in the world. It’s so diverse and large, with such a long fascinating history. I feel like I could probably spend my whole life exploring that city and never get bored.
Your tips for city travelers heading to London?
Everyone knows the classic attractions in London, but if you can dig deeper, there is a lot of interesting stuff to discover. My favorite thing to do here is to just pick a neighborhood or tube stop and just wander. Doesn’t matter where, you’re sure to discover a hidden historical gem, an old bookstore, a neat pub or a street market.
As a professional travel blogger, what makes a city worth visiting?
It really depends on your personal preferences, but I believe that the best cities to visit are ones with good walkability, interesting history, great food and friendly locals.
I like the kind of city you can discover at your own pace without a guide.
Your five ingredients for the perfect city trip?
- Accommodations in a fun neighborhood;
- A list of delicious local restaurants to try (or even better: street food);
- Enough time to explore that you don’t feel rushed;
- Local friends or acquaintances to show you around;
- Good weather!
Which gadgets/apps are essential companions for a modern city traveller?
I don’t even remember what it was like to travel before [easyazon_link keywords=”smart phone” locale=”US”]smart phones[/easyazon_link]. My go to apps are Googlemaps, Yelp and Lyft/Uber.
Would you describe yourself as a responsible traveler? Why?
I try, but I don’t know if I always succeed. One thing I try to be very careful with is where I spend my money. I try to support local businesses and keep my money away from companies that exploit people or animals.
Your key insight from traveling the world?
I think my biggest lesson from traveling the world is that no matter how different we are culturally, people all over the world are fundamentally the same.
Thank you, Stephanie!
