City travelers, here’s our latest interview with world’s most inspiring travel bloggers, sharing their favorite city destination and travel experiences. Today, meet Kiersten Rich of The Blonde Abroad, award-winning solo female travel & lifestyle blog featuring travel tips, fashion, festivals and photography from around the world.
Kiersten, your best city trip so far?
That’s a tough call but I fell in love with Reykjavik in Iceland. It’s such a cool little city bursting with culture. Whether it’s a cute coffee shop, a fun bar or live music, there’s something for everyone.
Your tips for city travellers heading the same way?
Save on alcohol by grabbing a bottle at Duty Free in the airport. It’s about 3x less expensive. If you do decide to go out for a drink, keep an eye out for happy hour! Alcohol is super expensive in Iceland.
For food, there are a lot of options, but most everything in Iceland is locally sourced and organic. For some good old fashion comfort food with a locals vibe, I loved Svarta Kaffi for soup in a bread bowl washed down with a craft beer.
Most of Iceland’s best things to do are outside of the city, so be sure to rent a car and drive the island.
As a professional travel blogger, what makes a city worth visiting?
I like a healthy balance of fashion, culture, food and music.
Your five ingredients for the perfect city trip?
A bar with a great vibe, fun nightlife, walkable streets, yummy street food and awesome locals.
Which gadgets/apps are essential companions for a modern city traveller?
I always use the Currency App and iTranslate when traveling internationally. I also have an unlocked [easyazon_link keywords=”iPhone” locale=”US”]iPhone[/easyazon_link] and a TMobile plan so I have free international data and messaging which is really helpful.
Would you describe yourself as a responsible traveller? Why?
I always do my best to be a responsible traveler by supporting local businesses- whether it’s booking with locally owned tour companies or staying in apartments or B&B’s owned by locals.
Eating locally sourced foods is also very important to me and something I try to look out for when traveling.
Your key insights from traveling the world?
My key insight from traveling the world is learning how capable I truly was.
Growing up in a small town, I didn’t really think of much outside of my own community. Traveling solo gave me an entirely new perspective on how resourceful I could be and that the world wasn’t a big scary place.
Thank you, Kiersten – and save travels!
